What Insulation Removal & Replacement Includes

Insulation removal is the right step when existing attic insulation is wet, moldy, contaminated by rodents, compressed to the point of uselessness, or has to come out for a roof, duct, or electrical project. Nolan Air vacuums out the old material with a commercial insulation vacuum that discharges outside the house, bags and disposes of it, and cleans the attic floor. We then air-seal the ceiling plane — can lights, plumbing and wiring penetrations, top plates, and the attic hatch — install baffles at the eaves, and blow in new insulation to the specified R-value. The target R-value and installed depth are based on the existing insulation, the selected material, current guidance and the project requirements. If ductwork is exposed during removal, it is inspected and any leaks are sealed before the new insulation goes in.

Why Insulation Removal & Replacement Matters in Florida

Old insulation in Hillsborough County attics has usually been through decades of heat and humidity. Roof leaks and AC condensate leaks wet it; wet insulation grows mold and loses its R-value permanently. Rodents nest in it and leave droppings that affect indoor air. Insulation installed in the 1980s and 1990s was often only R-19 and has settled to less. Adding new insulation on top of damaged material locks in the problem. Removing it first, sealing the ceiling, and installing fresh insulation to the specified R-value is what actually reduces the heat load on the air conditioner and fixes the hot second floor or the bedroom that never cools.

How Nolan Air Handles Insulation Removal & Replacement

Because Nolan Air is an HVAC contractor, we look at the attic as part of the cooling system: insulation, ductwork, ventilation, and the air handler together. The inspection produces a written quote based on measured attic square footage and target R-value. Removal and replacement in Tampa is typically completed in one day. Where ductwork needs sealing or replacement, we sequence it before the new insulation. Quotes are free.

Insulation Removal & Replacement FAQs — Tampa

When does insulation need to be removed rather than added to?

When it is wet, moldy, rodent-contaminated, or so compressed it no longer insulates — or when it has to come out for other attic work.

What does insulation removal and replacement cost in Tampa?

It is priced by attic square footage, depth of material removed, and target R-value. Estimates are free.

Is blown-in fiberglass or cellulose better in Hillsborough County?

Fiberglass and cellulose can both be used for attic insulation. We recommend a material and installed R-value based on the attic’s existing condition and the project requirements.

Can you remove insulation with rodent damage?

Yes. Contaminated insulation is vacuumed out, the attic is cleaned, and entry points should be sealed by a pest professional before new insulation is installed.
