We then air-seal the ceiling plane — can lights, plumbing and wiring penetrations, top plates, and the attic hatch — install baffles at the eaves, and blow in new insulation to the specified R-value. The target R-value and installed depth are based on the existing insulation, the selected material, current guidance and the project requirements. If ductwork is exposed during removal, it is inspected and any leaks are sealed before the new insulation goes in.
